Large Scale Residential Development
The Grey Abbey residential development presented some unique challenges due to the specific environmental constraints of the site. Located above the regionally-significant Curragh Aquifer, the site required special care in design and construction in order to minimise any impact to the groundwater regime. This was achieved through the use of protection measures and strict water management throughout construction.
The site also required a foul water pumping station which was designed to serve the development but also to replace an aging Uisce Eireann pump station operating in the area with additional capacity for future development in the area. Design of this pump station was done through consultation with the Uisce Éireann Asset Planning Team.
The proposed homes include 6 five-bed two-storey (including balcony at first floor level and all semi-detached), 81 four-bed two-storey houses, 120 three-bed two-storey houses (111 semi-detached and 9 mid-terraced) and a two-storey childcare facility.
